Smart Triage Questions
Smart Triage Questions are AI-generated follow-up questions that appear in the Patient Triage form after a patient has described their health problem. They're designed to gather more of the information you need upfront - so you spend less time chasing patients for missing details before you can make a triage decision.
📢 As of July 2026, Smart Triage Questions is being piloted with a small number of GP practices. The pilot is now closed to new sign-ups. We plan to release the feature more widely once the pilot is complete.
Here's how it works:
A patient submits their health problem description as normal in the Patient Triage form
Our AI automatically generates up to five relevant follow-up questions based on what the patient has written 👇
The patient answers the questions as part of the same form, before they submit their request
Their answers arrive in your inbox alongside the original request, at the same time 👇
What you'll see in the inbox
When a patient has answered Smart Triage Questions, their responses will appear directly in the triage conversation, alongside their main health problem description. It will be clearly labelled to show the questions were AI-generated.
You'll be able to give feedback on the quality of the questions directly from the inbox to help us improve the feature over time.
Things to know
All questions are optional for patients - they can skip individual questions if they prefer.
Up to five questions will be generated.
Smart Triage Questions are AI-generated - while we've worked hard to ensure they're relevant and appropriate, we'd encourage you to always read the patient's full message.
Patients are informed that AI is involved in generating the questions.
Smart Conversation Topics
Smart Conversation Topics give every conversation in your inbox a clear summary - so you can scan the inbox to find relevant messages and prioritise requests faster.
For inbound Patient Triage requests, the topic is AI-generated based on what the patient has written. For other conversation types - such as messages sent using a Template or Questionnaire - the topic is generated automatically from the template or questionnaire name.

How can I get access to Smart Triage Questions or Smart Conversation Topics? Our pilot sign-up for Smart Conversation Questions is currently closed. If you would like to pilot Smart Conversation Topics or some of our other new releases, please sign up here.
Will Smart Triage Questions affect the Patient Triage form completion rate? We've designed Smart Triage Questions to add minimal friction for patients. All questions are optional, and we monitor form completion rates closely.
Can patients skip the Smart Triage Questions? Yes - each question is optional, and patients can leave individual questions blank.
Will Smart Conversation Topics appear for all message types? Topics will appear in the inbox for all conversation types. For most message types - such as templates, Questionnaires, and booking links - the topic is generated automatically from the message name. For Patient Triage requests, the topic is AI-generated. For free-text messages, you'll be able to add a topic manually.
I have feedback on one of the AI-generated questions. How do I share it? You can give feedback directly from the inbox. When a conversation includes Smart Triage Questions, you'll see a prompt asking whether the questions were useful. Your feedback helps us improve the quality of questions over time.
