We want to ensure that patients can access the best care options, the first time.

Building on our online consultation solution, Patient Triage, we’ll be developing features to better signpost the most appropriate services and care options for patients, helping them make informed choices about where to seek help.

This feature is only available to practices that signed up for the pilot. Users who signed up will have been notified by email.
Currently, we don't have a waiting list for this pilot, and once we gather the results of the pilot, this feature will be rolled out to all Patient Triage practices by the end of the year.

What is the Digital Front Door?

A new Patient Triage feature aimed at utilising nationally available services and resources to help manage patient demand. This is done by automatically signposting patients to appropriate self-care and self-referral resources for their problem via the Patient Triage form, ensuring practices can spend their time and effort triaging patients who really need to be seen by the GP. Patients will always have the option to contact their GP, in addition to signposting options, ensuring they can get the care they need.

Aims of the pilot

We want to understand how well this new feature works for healthcare professionals and patients. By taking part in the pilot, you can be an early tester and help us improve and shape this feature.

What’s involved in the pilot?

Our first version of the Digital Front Door focuses on tailored signposting to nationally available services in England. Patients will be signposted via the Patient Triage form for 20 health problems where they could commonly receive care from other services.

Patients will be signposted to national resources, including:

  • NHS.UK advice pages

  • Pharmacy (including Pharmacy First)

  • NHS.UK find a service pages (e.g. find a sexual health clinic)

  • NHS.UK self-referral resources (e.g. self-referral to talking therapies)

Patients will always have the option to contact their GP practice, in addition to these other options.

Practices taking part in the pilot will not need to do anything differently.

Below is an example signposting page a patient would see if they were looking for care for a sore throat πŸ‘‡

Which health problems will patients be signposted for?

The health problems Accurx will signpost for are πŸ‘‡

Timelines

  • Piloting begins June 2025 (with a gradual rollout to pilot practices) - the exact date your practice will go live will be confirmed later.

  • The pilot will run for at least one month, until we have collected enough data and feedback to assess the success of the pilot. We will be looking to understand how frequently we show signposting to patients and patient engagement with and uptake of signposting options.

  • After the pilot:

    • We will assess any improvements required based on learnings from the pilot

    • Your practice will retain access to this feature, and we will eventually roll it out more widely to other practices using Accurx Patient triage

    • We will continue to iterate and improve this product throughout 2025
