How to send a video consultation invite

Video consultations are now part of compose, so there's no longer a separate video button.

Or reply to a patient as you normally would 👇

  • Click the more options button, then video consultation

Please note: Video consultation invites can't be scheduled. If your message already has a scheduled send time, the Video consultation option will be greyed out. Remove the schedule so the message sends straight away, and the option will be available again 👍

  • Feel free to edit the message, then click 'Send' when you're ready 🎉

Note: the Video Consultation button can appear greyed out if you're scheduling a message. Once the schedule is removed (i.e. you use the Send Now option instead), the Video Consultation button becomes clickable again.

Joining the video consultation 📹

Once you've sent the message, you'll find the video consultation in the conversation thread in your Inbox. Click Join video consultation to open the call in a new browser tab, or Copy link if you need to share it another way - for example with a colleague.

You (and your patient) will need a camera, a microphone (or headset), and a supported browser - see our technical requirements article for full details.

If you're seeing any errors, this article will help you quickly troubleshoot. 😊

FAQs ❓

Can I start or join a video consultation from my phone? Not at the moment - as a healthcare professional, you can only start and join a video consultation from a computer. Your patient can join the call from any device, including their smartphone.

What devices can I use it on?
You can use it on a desktop/laptop if you have a webcam and microphone. For more info on network requirements see here.

When does the video consultation link expire?

The link for a video consultation is active for 24 hours. We recommend sending the link just before the consultation starts.

What happens when a patient responds to the SMS/email?

The patient will get an automated response saying that they won't get a reply to their SMS/email.

Can they open the link on a tablet or computer?'

Yes! As long as the device has both an internet connection and the ability to receive emails.

Why is the video consultation option greyed out?

The video consultation option is greyed out when a scheduled send time has been applied to your message, because video consultation invites can't be scheduled. To fix this, remove the scheduled send time from the message, and the Video consultation option will become available again. The video consultation link is active for 24 hours, so we recommend sending it just before the consultation starts.
