Individual Accounts Are Now Required

On the back of instructions from the NHS, we are improving the security of Accurx accounts as we continue to add more functionality that deals with sensitive patient data. We need to ensure those accessing Accurx are who they claim to be and that patient data is kept safe.

As part of these security improvements, every Accurx user must have an individual account linked to their own NHS email address (e.g., john.smith@nhs.net) and phone number. Generic or shared accounts (e.g., parksurgery@nhs.net) are no longer permitted.

Why Shared Accounts Are No Longer Allowed

Shared accounts create security risks, reduce accountability, and make it harder to track individual actions within Accurx. They also go against both NHS guidance and Accurx's Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy, which state:

  • Terms & Conditions (4.8.2) – Each authorised user must keep a secure password and not share their login credentials with anyone else.

  • Terms & Conditions (4.8.3) – Each authorised user must use an individual email address when creating an Accurx account and cannot use generic or team email addresses

  • Acceptable Use Policy (27) – Users must use their email address when creating an account with Accurx and must not create an account using generic or team email addresses.

Any accounts that do not comply with these requirements will need to be updated.

The Importance of Using an Individual Account

Using an individual account means:

These measures are in place to protect both patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring that Accurx remains a secure platform for NHS communication.

How to Use the Collaborative Accurx Inbox

Accurx is designed to be collaborative without the need for shared accounts.

You can assign messages to teams – When sending messages, users can assign responses to a team so all members can view and manage them. Click ‘You’ and then select where the response should go 👇

Access team inboxes easily – Users can view team inboxes via 'Teams' and access other users' inboxes via the 'Colleagues' section. If you need a new team inbox created, reach out to support to have this made for you.

These features ensure that teams can work together efficiently while maintaining security and accountability.

All Accurx users must have an individual account. If your organisation is still using shared accounts, you must transition to individual accounts immediately.

If you need assistance setting up individual accounts or creating new teams, please let us know. You can chat with us using the green message bubble in the bottom right-hand corner of this page. 👉
