Privacy and Security: Why am I being asked to use NHSmail Single Sign-On (SSO)?

If you see an error message asking you to use single sign-on, follow this guide to log in.

What is NHSmail Single Sign-On (SSO)?

You might see this referred to as "SSO" or "logging in via NHSmail." It’s a secure way to log in to Accurx using the credentials you already use every day.

Instead of managing a separate password for Accurx, you use your NHSmail details. This is much more secure for patient data and means you have one less password to remember!

What is changing?

To improve security, we are phasing out password logins for users who have previously used NHSmail Single Sign-On.

  • Phase 1: For a 15-day period, you may see a notification notifying you to log in using NHSmail Single Sign-On if you try to log in with a password but have used NHSmail Single Sign-On in the past month.

  • Phase 2: After 15 days, password login will be disabled, and you will be required to use the "Continue with NHSmail" button to log in. If you attempt to enter a password, you will be redirected to use NHSmail Single Sign-On.

Why is this change happening?

We have identified that using a manual password after you have already logged in to NHSmail Single Sign-On (SSO) creates a security vulnerability. To protect your account and patient data security, we are making a change.

If you attempt to log in with a password, you'll see a pop-up letting you know that you'll need to use NHSmail to log in soon 👇

How to log in (Desktop, Web and Mobile)

If you have an @nhs.net email address, you should no longer type your password into the Accurx login boxes. Instead, follow these steps:

  • Accurx Desktop (The Toolbar)

  1. Click the 'Log in' button on the toolbar.

  2. In the pop-up, select 'Continue with NHSmail (nhs.net)'.

  3. Log in via the official NHS portal.

You will be redirected to the NHSmail login page. Once you've entered your login details, you will be automatically redirected back to Accurx and logged in.

  • Accurx Web

  1. On the web login page, click the blue 'Continue with NHSmail (nhs.net)' button.👇

  2. You will also be redirected to the NHSmail login page, where you can enter your NHSmail login details and be redirected back to Accurx Web and logged in.

  • Accurx mobile app

  1. Simply enter your nhs.net email address.

  2. The app will recognise your domain and automatically redirect you to the NHSmail login page.

Frequently Asked Questions

I've always used a password. Why stop now?

By using NHSmail Single Sign On, you benefit from the same high-level security that protects your NHS email.

What if I've never used NHS Single Sign On before?

Currently, this change only affects users who have previously logged in using the "Continue with NHSmail" button. If you have only ever used a password and never used NHS Single Sign On, you can still log in with your password for now. However, for better security, we recommend switching to the "Continue with NHSmail" option as soon as possible.

What if I'm trying to create a new account?

You don't need to create a password! Just click 'Continue with NHSmail', and you'll be redirected to your NHSmail login page. Once logged in, your Accurx account will be created.
