This article runs through how you can run a report for patients who have been prescribed 30mg/500mg co-codamol at any point in the past 6 months, and how to use this report to send a Batch Message regarding the national shortage.
Part 1: Running the search criteria
Within the Vision 'Search and Reports', you'll need to set up your search as below 👇
Part 2: Exporting the patient list CSV file using Vision+
Batch Messaging will require a .csv, .txt, or .tsv file to search for the CHI number/NHS number in Vision and pull the mobile number in the record
You can download CSV files on Vision+. You'll just need to ensure that you have the CHI number/NHS number in the output report, as not all groups have that as default.
1. Open Vision+ group
2. Download the patient group as a CSV file
3. Open the CSV file in Excel
4. Remove all columns, except for the CHI number/NHS number column
5. Select all CHI numbers/NHS numbers within the column (excluding the heading)
6. Right-click on the highlighted and select 'Format cells'
7. Select 'Custom' and click '0'
8. Enter 10 zeros into the box under 'Type', as shown here 👇 and then select 'Ok' to apply the change (This step is to ensure that Excel don't remove the 0 at the beginning of CHI numbers)
9. Save the file as a 'Text delimited' file and then close the file (please select 'Yes', 'Replace', etc when prompted)
Note: Ensure that when you create your CSV file, you exclude patients who you don't want to message (e.g. those who have declined consent for SMS communication, and those who are deceased). Batch Messaging currently won't filter these users out from the CSV file.
Part 3: Sending the Batch Message
1. Access the Batch Message feature by clicking on the downwards arrow on the toolbar and then 'Batch message'.
Could not display content
2. Once the Accurx Batch Messaging page launches (which sits in the browser), click on 'Send a batch message'.
3. You will see some information about what the CSV file needs to include. When you have created the CSV file, select Upload File.
Use the CSV file that was exported from part 2 above ☝️
Note: Ensure that when you create your CSV file, you exclude patients who you don't want to message (e.g. those who have declined consent for SMS communication, and those who are deceased)
If any patients cannot be contacted, you will be shown the details on the Review Patient List page. You can download the list of non-contactable patients by clicking Download List.

Contact details not provided → The required contact methods (e.g., mobile number or email address) are missing in the CSV file.
Not a UK phone number → The phone number provided in the CSV file is not recognised as a valid UK phone number (+44).
Mobile number is likely to fail → If we tried to message this number in the last 3 months and the message failed to deliver, we won't contact this number. This only applies to workspaces where this feature is turned on.
Patient deceased → The patient is marked as deceased.
Unable to retrieve contact details → We we aren’t able to get contact information for the patient from the clinical system or Patient Demographic Service (PDS).
4. To upload the list, click Continue. You will then see how many patients have been added as recipients. You are now ready to compose your message.
5. Once you've composed the appropriate message, click on the 'Send' button to send the Batch Message.
