Support for the meningitis outbreak

We are following the ongoing outbreak of Meningitis and know that the level of outreach to practices for support has increased.

To help you manage triage and support patients, the following features are available to you:

New SMS templates - available now in Accurx:

Title: Meningitis Outbreak - March 2026 - UKHSA helpline

Body: Call 999 if you or someone else has symptoms of meningitis. If you do not have symptoms but think you have been in contact with a confirmed case, call the UKHSA helpline on 0344 225 3861. It is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Title: K&M Meningitis Outbreak - March 2026 - Preventative antibiotics for contacts

Body: Call 999 if you or someone else has symptoms of meningitis. If you do not have symptoms but visited Club Chemistry on 5, 6 or 7 March 2026, the UKHSA advises that you have preventative antibiotics. Customisable Patient Triage Settings


You can customise the yellow box at the top of the patient triage form. Adding a note here is a great way to direct patients toward the right meningitis support. An example of what you can include is shown below 👇

Emergency safety netting in Patient Triage


When patients access the medical or admin forms to submit a request in Patient Triage, they are all asked to confirm it is not an emergency and are shown details of situations in which they should call 999. As part of this, they will be surfaced “signs of a severe infection” in both adult and child submissions:
