Healthcare messenger is a feature that allows you to send and receive emails quickly and securely with other healthcare professionals about patients. All emails are sent securely via and can be saved to the patient record! See more about IG and security here.

You can also add up to 4 attachments to email directly from EMIS/SystmOne or your desktop and Messenger will remember your most commonly used and favourite email addresses! We can also upload a directory on your behalf making it easy to quickly search for the email address you need. 

What can I use it for?

You can send emails to, secure, and email addresses. These email domains are deemed to be secure as per the secure email standard (DCB1596). Emails sent to and from health care organisations must meet this standard to ensure that all sensitive and confidential information is kept secure. You can find out more information here

Some examples of emails that have been sent by our users include:

  • Contacting hospital and community teams about treatment and follow-up
  • Prescription enquiries to/from Pharmacies
  • Referrals to other services 
  • Advice and guidance from hospital 
  • Funding requests on behalf of a patient to the CCG

Who can use it?

Anyone with a Chain SMS account can use healthcare messenger by clicking on the mail icon. All emails are saved in the practice inbox and any user in the practice can see all emails that have been sent and received. This is to allow anyone in the practice to action emails and manage the inbox e.g. if the original sender is away.

How do I use it?
