When using Chain, information regarding consent will be presented back to you when you pull up a patient in EMIS/S1 and Chain. Here's how it looks 👇 :

Note that you aren't blocked from sending texts to patients that have declined consent. This is intentional so that, for instance, a clinician could send a text whilst in a consultation to their current patient who gives verbal consent.

How Chain checks consent in EMIS

Chain checks for the following codes in the patient medical record in EMIS, to see whether a patient has opted in or out of SMS messages:

Consent given

Consent given for communication by short message service text messaging
SNOMED: 699237001
READ: 9ndP

Consent given to receive test results by short message service text messaging
SNOMED: 911361000000104
READ: 9ndP0

Consent declined

Declined consent for short message service text messaging
SNOMED: 513631000000106
READ: 9ndQ

Declined consent to receive test results by short message service text messaging
SNOMED: 911401000000108
READ: 9ndQ0


How Chain checks consent in SystmOne

In SystmOne, Chain checks SMS consent status in the "Patients Details" as shown in the image below.

(Note: consent SNOMED/READ codes are not checked by Chain in SystmOne)

You can change SMS consent status for a patient in SystmOne by following the steps shown in the image below:
