Accurx Scribe in Web: System Audio

This article runs through how to use the system audio feature within Accurx Scribe in Accurx Web.

Accurx Scribe also has a system audio feature where it can pick up audio playing from the device, which can help with telephone/video consultations!

This is particularly useful if you are speaking with a patient through:

  • a video consultation platform

  • digital telephony

  • a virtual meeting tool such as Microsoft Teams

When enabled, Scribe can listen to the audio played through your device, allowing it to capture the consultation even if the patient is not physically in the room.

Please note: This can only work if the audio is playing from the device where the Scribe feature is running.

  • If the audio is coming through your PC (i.e. you're using a virtual meet system such as Microsoft Teams, or your phone system is a software on your PC), then it can be picked up by the system audio feature.

  • If the audio is playing on the physical phone that is separate from the device where Scribe is running, then it won't be picked up by system audio. In this case, you can play this out on loudspeaker and use the microphone option to pick this up (i.e. not system audio).

When to use system audio

You may want to enable system audio when:

  • Running remote consultations

  • Capturing consultations conducted via video platforms

  • Working with softphone or digital telephony systems

How to enable system audio

1. Open the microphone selector

In the 'Encounter settings' section, click the microphone dropdown.

You’ll see your available audio inputs along with the 'Include system audio' toggle.

2. Enable 'Include system audio'

This tells Scribe to capture audio playing through your device as well as your microphone.

3. Choose what to share

Your browser will ask what you want to share.

You can choose to share:

  • a browser tab

  • a specific window

  • your entire screen

A few things to be aware of:

Please ensure you:

  • Select the correct tab, window, or screen where the consultation audio is playing

  • Enable the 'Also share system audio' toggle

⚠️ If the wrong tab/window is selected, or the 'Also share system audio' toggle is not enabled, Scribe will not receive the audio from your consultation ⚠️

The system audio toggle will need to be enabled for each separate Accurx Scribe consultation.

Accurx Scribe does not see the content of your screen; it only processes the audio.

4. Conduct your consultation

Start conducting your consultation, and the system audio should be picked up from your shared tab/window/screen.

💡 Tip: If this is your first time using the system audio feature in Accurx Scribe on Accurx Web, it might be worth trialling a consultation to ensure that sharing is enabled correctly and that the system audio is being captured.
